
To enroll a child in Henderson County Public Schools, the child must
reside in Henderson County with a parent or court appointed legal
custodian (guardian). To find out which school your child should
attend, call the Department of Student
Services at (270) 831-5000.
You may call the school your child will
attend for additional enrollment information.
KINDERGARTEN
ENROLLMENT
Pre-registration for Kindergarten usually takes place in March or April prior to
the student starting school in August. The following criteria will apply
for your child to be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.

Must be five years old (5) on
or before October 1 of the year he/she will be enrolling

Certified Birth Certificate must be provided
If an official certificate is not provided, the parent/guardian
must
present one within 30 days after the student enrolls or the
Kentucky State Police will be notified.

Before the Kindergarten student starts
school, the following is required:

Kentucky Immunization Certificate

Physical Examination
All pupils entering Kindergarten must have a physical
examination completed by
a qualified licensed physician, a licensed physician assistant,
or licensed nurse
practitioner acting under the supervision of a licensed
physician. The results of this physical must be documented on a Kentucky
School Medical Examination Form and performed no earlier than 12 months prior to
the date the pupil enters school.

Eye
Examination
All Kindergarten students must have an eye examination performed by an
optometrist or an ophthalmologist that is documented on a Kentucky Eye
Examination form for school entry. This evidence shall be submitted to the
school no later than January 1 of the first year a child is enrolled in the
public school system.
GRADES 1-12
ENROLLMENT:
Transferring within the district

Parent or Guardian (proof of guardianship required)
must register child at his/her new school. Student must live in the school district where they
register.
Attendance
Zone Change approval is required to register your child in a school outside the
student's residence attendance. An Attendance Zone Application must be
completed and approved by the principal of the school where
you want your child to attend, if it is not in your district. The principal of the
school approves or disapproves the application. At this point it is sent to
Central Office, Director of Pupil Personnel, who will notify the
parent/guardian of the status of the application.
GRADES 1-12
ENROLLMENT:
Transferring from Out of District or Out
of State
Enrolling will be made easier if you provide the
following information when you enroll your child:

Certified Birth Certificate
If an official certificate is not provided, the parent/guardian must present
one within 30 days after the student enrolls or the Kentucky State Police will
be notified.

If enrolling
from out of state, the student's Immunization Record may be taken to the Henderson County Health
Department at 472 Klutey Park Plaza to be transferred to a Kentucky
Certificate.

OTHER
CONSIDERATIONS FOR PARENTS:
If your child currently receives Special Education Services, bring a copy of the
current IEP or 504 Plan.
A "Release of Records" must be signed at the school where
your child is enrolling for us to request records from his/her previous school.
