Using HELP

Computer Components

CPU – The Central Processing Unit includes a hard drive (C:), floppy drive (A:), and a CD ROM drive (D: or E:). 

Monitor – The monitor allows you to view the work of the CPU.

Keyboard – The keyboard is used to input information into the computer.

Mouse – The mouse is used to help maneuver through the software.

Speakers – These are optional devices which allow you to hear specific sound functions of your computer (You must also have a sound card installed to use speakers.)

Printer – the printer is also an optional device which allows you to produce a printed copy of the material you’ve opened or created on the computer.

Other optional peripheral equipment includes scanners, zip drives, cameras, microphones, TV to computer hook-ups, Palm Pilots, etc.

Right-Clicking your Mouse

When an item on your computer screen is selected/highlighted.  You can view a menu of choices by right-clicking your mouse.  The menu that appears will have choices that are specific to the item you’ve selected/highlighted.

 

Using HELP in any Microsoft Program

You can access Help in any program to find directions for a job you wish to complete.  To do this, click Help on the Menu bar at the top of the screen. Your options include using:

1.       The Office Assistant which appears when you click the question mark at the end of the standard tool bar. 

 

 


 

 

2.       The Contents or Index tabs from the Help menu. 

-         Click Help.

-         Click Contents and Index.

-         Click the Contents tab or the Index tab.
