Hoaxes
A hoax is usually an e-mail that is mailed
in a chain letter fashion describing some devastating, highly unlikely type of
virus or other information. Hoaxes are detectable as having no file
attachment, no reference to a third party who can validate the claim, and by the
general tone of the message. (Definition from symantec.com)
If you get an e-mail from someone with an offer that is
too good to be true or a message that you are not sure about, please delete it
without forwarding it. Many people forward e-mails with information that
have nothing to do with reality:
-
Bill Gates is going to give you money if a million people
receive this e-mail
-
someone needs help with moving money from one country to
another
-
a dying child will be given money by a group if so many
people forward this e-mail
If you receive an e-mail that has a
virus attached, the virus scan software will usually remove the virus.
However, you sometimes cannot delete the e-mail. If this should happen,
